  1. Very deserving of their nomination for sure. Our group was involved in a local prison program a couple of years ago. I was very fortunate to be able to see first hand these inmates interact with the dogs and to see what a difference both made in each others lives. It is a win win situation for sure!

  2. Greyt to see this video posted on LWD. They’re prison program is wonderful. Many of the broken leg hounds find their way to the prison for rehab too. I foster for GFNJ when I can. Dr. Wendy did the surgery on the broken hock of one of my fosters, Emma. She’s a terrific ortho vet who spent a lot of time working with me to get Emma up and walking again. Our little red haired broodie girl, Meg, a painfully shy foster girl who never left, came from GFNJ too.

  3. This is an awesome idea. I was unable to watch the video because I could not see the full frame….. maybe some tweeking is needed

  4. THank you I was able to see it. The program IS wonderful (now that I could see the whole frame). I have 3 dogs and there is nothing better than to come home to tail wags and body wiggles. Im sure these inmates get a sence of love and being needed by these dogs. I have seen this (or a similar program) in other places and it should be bigger than it is! Give these prisoners a purpose, give these dogs a new lease on life….Its a win win situation!

  5. Our boy Pauly (pictured here) was a graduate of the Second Chance at Life prison program at Coldwater Prison here in Michigan. He is a wonderful dog and I think the program is great for the dogs as well as the prisoners!!!

  6. All of us here would agree – **Life with dogs is transformative.** However, not all of us have had the blessing of learning empathy and responsibility from our families or our life experiences – hence, some of our fellow humans stumble, and face consequences for crimes. For someone in prison, maybe for the first time in their life, they have someone with a pure heart who loves and trusts them unconditionally – perhaps someone who, like them, needs to make a difficult transition into being accepted into societal norms. Within these programs, the aspiring trainer also gets perhaps first time hands on experience with the big responsibility of providing for a creature that totally depends on you. This is a big deal! Caring for others – human, animal – is hard work, and sometimes this needs to be learned – and dogs are such generous teachers. These programs are heaven on earth, and let us all support them! Thanks for posting this, LwDs!!

  7. Very educational video. I have learned a great deal in a few minutes about this greyt creatures and this wonderful program. I was sad by the fact that certain humans abuse of these beautiful dogs and then they get rid of them when they can no longer achieve the owner’s goals. If nothing, for us that don’t know much about Greyhounds, it is a learning experience. Thank you

  8. This got me teary eyed. Knowing that it’s good for the inmates and to see the love they have for these greyhounds is so true to their hearts. It’s something for them to look forward to while serving time and the dogs all benefit from learning and being with someone and receiving the and giving love in return. A great program.

  9. The men need the dogs and the dogs need the men..such a wonderful positive thing for both…both need love and they both give love….hoping to see more video updates…
