Quentin the Terror

There is something about a little trash talker that’s hard not to love.

Meet Quentin, trash talker extraordinaire.

Quentin’s prickly disposition has landed him on Animal Planet’s Bad Dog – airing Saturdays at 10 p.m.

  1. my first greyhound was a trash talker. We would just laugh at her and it made her madder so the more she talked trash-big teeth and all. I loved the last bit when he is growling AND trying to give a kiss!

  2. I’d say that’s one brave dog mom! She’s a lot more trusting than I would be with a growling dog! Very cute, though! Especially the end!

    Aire-hugs,

  3. While it’s obvious she has no fear of the little terror, I still would probably NOT have my face that close. Just in case. Getting bit on the hand is not so bad as getting bit on your lip, nose or eye!
My Willie makes his “mean face” at other dogs when they encroach on his spot on the couch. They don’t buy it anymore than this woman buys Quinton’s act.

    1. Sounds cruel. Do you think you really did try EVERY avenue? Small dog dominance issues, like biting, are definitely not the most difficult to tackle. Also, you’ve effectively removed a symptom without likely addressing the problem. You should seek help with a trainer who works with severe behavioral issues.

  4. that is nothing…you should see my Rustie’s “smile” when she doesn’t like what I am doing to or for her….remember Cujo??? even worse with sharper teeth….not her fault, she is in heart and kidney failure…luv her.

  5. Oh sure laugh but everyone is allowed to be grumbly for one day. Besides, he’s a tough guy – having a bath does nothing for his street cred (and it was filmed and posted, sheesh). Thank goodness his human didn’t opt for candles and middle of the road music to complete his humiliation.

  6. WOW. that poor dog is sending out all types of appeasement and warning signals. I don’t think I would put my face that close…one day, the dog just may bite. It won’t be so funny then.

    1. gotta agree with Trish on this – I feel so bad for little dogs because no one respects their signals, so they have to escalate and escalate then start biting instead of signaling fear or stress. And then not only is it not cute, the poor dog ends up dumped at a shelter, and with a bite history and learned aggression that make it VERY hard to find them a new home. Please, if you really love dogs, learn to understand and respect their communication.

      1. Thanks for saying so. We recently rescued a little guy like this on the day he was to be put down who’d been returned once and labeled as an “unpredictable biter”. He was giving off all kinds of stress signals, but I guess because he only weighed 6lbs no one paid attention. He’s a fantastic dog now; he had dental problems that were causing pain and was only trying to protect himself.

    1. Agree; although it may look funny to us, this little guy is sending out every signal short of snapping he can give.. He is stressed and not comfortable with the entire situation. A potential time bomb in the making 🙁

      1. Ok. This dog is hers and she obviously knows him well. He was getting a gentle bath! We had one like him. I thought the video was cute and my family members will really appreciate it!

  7. Sometimes older dogs are in pain and don’t know how to tell you when something simple like a bath can hurt.

  8. While I think that is cute, what does bother me is that had that been a big dog, particular one of the powerful breeds, people would be having a much different reaction. It bothers me when people think this behaviour is cute from small dogs…Lord, can you imagine if this was a pit bull. Sorry to be a party pooper 🙂

  9. Cute dog, but I have to say I’m totally confused as to why this dog’s aggression/signals are considered cute…

    1. I agree…there’s nothing cute about a growling snapping dog – she will get bitten one day. That little dog needs some work and she should read Ian Dunbar’s book on biting.

  10. So not funny! Wouldn’t allow that behavior at my house! Dog is warning them, and one day his warnings will end with a bite! Time to speak with a qualified trainer!

  11. she obviously knows her dog well…notice how calm she is and the dog knows she is the boss and wouldn’t hurt him….mine did the same thing and sounded worse but never bit me or anybody…my toy poodle just was grumping and that was her way of talking…being vocal…some dogs are, some dogs aren’t…I miss my doggy…8)

    1. I agree w/you Beth….she knows her dog. We had a smiling border collie that would talk and smile like this. Now if he had done it to strangers not good. But with us it was with prompting and we all enjoyed it when he said “I Love you”. He was a character my Barney boy. Now we have a singing Sheltie…..xo

      1. A fellow I knew some years ago apparently had a ‘chi’ as a family pet. Similar situation to this – he knew the dog and how much stress the dog could take (he thought).

        But he was wrong.

So that was the explaination he had to frequently goveeople to explain the scar that ran all the way from under one nostril, to off the edge of his upper lip. He said that the dog was hanging off of his lip and wouldn’t let go, and was swinging on the air that way.

I think the woman in the video is insensitive and unwise. Dogs learn to understand what laughter, and ridicule, are. She wouldbe a mpreresponsible dog owner if she were tp reassure the dog in a confident and loving voice, and to praise the dog for cooperating.
I may not know the dog as well as she does, but that is how I read. the situation.

  12. I think there are a lot of judgments being made based on one little video. I would respect the snarl and not have my FACE so close, but he’s their dog. He didn’t put up a fight about anything or resist or try to get away. He makes noise. Without seeing any other behaviors, I would not come to any conclusions here.

  13. KEYLA MY SHELTIE TALKS TO ME THAT WAY SHE WILL ROLL HER LIP UP AND SMILE AND SHE WILL GIVE A LOW GROWL BUT ITS REALLY NOT GROWLING IF I CAN GET SOME ONE TO TAKE A PIC OF HER I WILL POST SHE HAS BEEN VOCAL SINCE SHE WAS 9 WEEKS OLD, SHE HAS NEVER BITTEN IT IS HER WAY OF TALKING AND SHE ALSO ROLLES HER LIPS TO GET HER TEETH BRUSHED, IT IS FUNNY I JUST NEED SOMEONE TO FILM HER DOING IT WITH ME, LOL LIKE I SAID SHES DONE IT SINCE SHE WA 9 WEEKS. IF YOU ASK HER A QUESTION SHE WILL MOAN AN ANSWER AND SHOW HER TEETH AND SHE WILL ONLY MOAN WHEN YOU ASK A QUESTION,

  14. This reminds me of my little Kate who is no longer with us,my dog scoot will do this if i just touch his paws, such a great video, thanks for sharing it.

  15. Thank you so much. I needed that. I have been looking at the various pieces of the Patrick the MIracle Dog story and although it is heartening that he is getting better, the story itself is pretty sad. Then, I came upon this. I am giggling like an idiot. You are right. The ending is priceless.

  16. I love this. I’d never heard the term trash talker when talking about a dog but that’s totally it. My puppy trash talks all the time when she wants attention. lol. Harmless and quite funny, but she thinks she’s all bad

  17. What is sad is that everyone thinks this is “cute”. Let’s see if we get the same response on a pit bull pulling this crap? A dog that is this obviously unbalanced needs some serious changes in the role its owner takes. People like anthropomorphizing animals, calling this “trash talking”, but what it really is is an indication of unbalanced behavior. I don’t doubt that this is not the only area of life that this dog has issues in. Strong, consistent leadership provides the best environment for a dog. It helps them feel safe and secure. This dog obviously lacks an owner with the necessary leadership to block neurotic behavior.

  18. The differences in opinion here seem to be between people who have and have not had or been around dogs like this. If you have, it seems normal, and you know yours didn’t bite you, so you think it’s cute when he gives kisses. If you haven’t, or especially if you have mostly dealt with larger or more aggressive dogs, you react with fear or judgement. Probably some of this is a neurosis of some sort, but it’s fairly common if you judge by the comments. It’s interesting to me that so far nobody has said “I had a dog that did that, and then he tried to rip my face off”.

  19. I’m just glad those people haven’t raised any kids. With that dog as spoiled it is; I don’t want to even imagine what their children would be like.

  20. I seriously don’t know what to start with!! But I will start off with, These people are the exact type of people that shouldn’t be allowed to own any animals!! They are seriously encouraging bad behavior!!! Dogs are used to being in a pack. In u as the owner is the closest thing to the Alpha it See’s! In if you don’t make the dog obey ur commands, it will take the role as the alpha/leader! In. These owners are falling right in line as if the dog were in charge of them! The dog sleeps where he wants, gets away with nipping growling

  21. This is absolutely ridiculous! These people should be charged for something, idk what maybe just Ignorance! These people are letting there dog take the role as alpha male!! In they listen to the dogs every command! Instead of it being the other way around!! Seriously, if they leave their clothes out or guitar shoes exc, it poops on them!! That’s basically the dogs way of saying take care of this crap!! Literally now. Lol instead of disciplining the darn dog. They cave in, instead of making the dog sleep in his bed or in a crate. He sleeps in their/HIS BED!! ONE SERIOUSLY MESSED UP COUPLE RIGHT HERE FOLKS!!! In the guy, is caving into the woman because he loves her in knows that she’ll leave him rather than getting rid of the dog!!! I really want to become a licensed dog trainer!! I know I could fix this, 90% of the problem is the owners!! They think it’s cute when the dog acts out in mid behaves. This dog is under so much stress it’s not funny!! This is exactly why lil dogs are so temperamental!! The owners think just Cuz their small everything they do is cute!! It’s just like teaching a 2yr old to cus in flip the bird at first it’s cute in funny. Then it becomes a big problem when he’s getting kicked out of school. I can’t believe Animal Planet condones this. I mean if it were showing them training it to get better itd be different!! Idk man I could go on in on with this subject it’s just insane!!! It’s so easy to see how miserable that dog really is!! ABSOLUTE WORST DOG OWNERS IVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!
