Battered, beaten and left for dead, a Boston dog has a new chance at life after being freed from a terrifying ordeal. The pit bull mix was found by a local realtor, abandoned in a locked closet in an empty Framingham, MA apartment. Animal control officers say the dog, now named Hope, spent weeks alone in confinement while suffering from untreated wounds caused by repeated beatings. She had several fractures to her ribs, legs and cheekbones.
“The extent of her injuries, they’re treatable, but just the horror she must’ve experienced makes it one of the worst cases I’ve seen,” said Dr. Martha Smith-Blackmore of the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
Vets say Hope is unlikely to regain full use of her hind legs because her injuries did not heal properly while she was confined to the closet, but they believe the resilient, loving dog should be able to lead a relatively pain free existence – which may be a first, given her horrific past.
A Tufts veterinary medical report describes Hope as a “sweet dog who has won the hearts of everyone in our hospital” despite her horrific injuries. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Fitchburg police at (978) 345-9658.
