Rescued from a shallow grave in Malta, a dog named Star is garnering the adoration of animal lovers worldwide as she recovers from a horrific case of abuse.

Now the once unwanted dog is enjoying most wanted status as offers to adopt her pour in from around the globe. Animal welfare officer Janice Chetcuti told the Times of Malta that the Animal Welfare Department had been inundated with offers from people wanting to adopt Star. Chetcuti said that the list was growing quickly, but that in fairness, the first person to offer was the most likely to take Star home. She noted that the person who had made that offer continues to check on the dog’s progress.

Ms Chetcuti said that Star is going for walks daily and is slowly recovering from the surgery she underwent to remove 40 pellets from her head. Meanwhile, a growing list of admirers watch and wait and hope for updates in discussions on her growing fan page.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 2122 4001, the Animal Welfare Department on 2590 4132/2590 4113 or to send an e-mail to [email protected].

  1. Another heart breaking case of animal cruelty. Bless you sweet Star. I can’t understand people that do such terrible things to animals. I hope anyone who has any information comes forward so the person responsible will be punished. We need to make the punishment for these cases much more harsh. Make these people really pay.

  2. Once again, another story where ONE shelter is INUNDATED w/ offers to adopt one dog.

Good to know there are that many people w/ room in their homes for dogs. Perhaps they should consider looking LOCALLY and helping the droves of dogs w/ sad stories at their local shelters.

Not to demean this story – as it is a sad one and looks to be one of my favorite breed mixes (Aussie?) – but for ALL OF THOSE TURNED AWAY once this dog is adopted – will they live up to their commitment to “saving a life” and go to their local shelter?

  3. I’d love to have this dog, but I already have a dog.I feel for the dog how can a person live with himself for doing this.

    1. so do i if they were caught and tortured too i think this sadistic brutality would stopwhatever a human does to an animal then let the same be done to them

  4. this monster or monsters need to be on death row, enough is enough, my GOD, this is happening way toooo much, this is attempted MURDER!! its a life,, they or he knew EXACTLY what they were doing to STAR, thats so evil… lets make a example and have the DEATH PENALITY for abusers to animal cruelity//

    1. I completely agree with you, I could KILL the ‘b’ myself, God bless Star and let him find a lovely new owner

  5. The persons responsible for this cruelty should be struck down, they should be punished for what they have done.
