A 55 year old shop worker says her loyal Staffordshire Bull Terrier assisted her in thwarting a burglary attempt on Saturday when it came to her defense, attacking the would-be robber and sending him packing.

Footage from closed-circuit security cameras captured the moment when Eve Watson and her dog were surprised by a punk who hopped over the counter at the Bargain Booze off-license in Torquay, Devon. The man was brandishing a knife and demanding cash. His demand was flatly denied.

Eve picked up a craft knife lying nearby and faced her attacker. “I then saw the craft knife and told him: ‘So you want to play with knives do you?’ We had a good old scrap and I think he cut his hand on the knife,” she said.

Sensing a threat to his owner, Cane pounced on the thug, delivering three swift bites to the groin that sent the man running. “Cane was jumping up and down and bit him at least three times where it really can hurt. I don’t think he drew blood though โ€” but it must have hurt. In the end he leapt over the counter and ran off.”

Eve can be seen in the footage below pulling down the robber’s hood to reveal his face to security cameras. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Det Con Dave Stamp at Torquay CID at 08452 777444, quoting crime FT/11/4000. They can also use the confidential Crimestopperstip line: 0800 555111
