Elementary students in the Cleveland area are creating and selling dog and cat toys in order to raise money for charity.

a boy and his dogThe students of Munson Elementary in Chardon, Ohio and Sunview Elementary in Lyndhurst, Ohio are making braided pull and ball toys, cat teasers and pet scarves, as well as human scarves using fleece, tennis balls, chopsticks and yarn. The third graders, with the help of their parents and peers are learning the value of hard work as they strive toward good deeds this holiday season.

The money-raising strategy requires students to request a loan from their banker, the school principal, in order to purchase the materials needed to create their pet toys. Pet toy sales will be held Dec. 11 from 10am-5pm and Dec. 17 from 10am-3pm at local businesses and every day at the schools.

Locals are encouraged to support these students for their hard work – please consider stopping by to make a purchase if you’re in the area.

Munson Elementary students will sell toys on Dec. 11, from 10am-5pm at Wal-Mart in Chardon. Sunview Elementary students will be out on Dec. 17 from 10am-3pm at Wal-Mart in Mayfield Heights, and at Pet Supplies Plus in Lyndhurst.

All profits from the sales will be donated to local animal rescue, Marilyn’s Voice, Inc. Marilyn’s Voice is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They primarily rescue dogs from puppy mills but also take in other abused and abandoned dogs. The dogs are immediately treated by a veterinarian and placed into foster homes where they will join a volunteer’s family and learn what it is like to be a beloved family dog. Any funds raised go directly do the dogs’ vet bills and care.
