download2Inspired by her deaf rescued dog Sadie, photographer and author Melissa McDaniel quit her day job to spend the last 3 years traveling the country to photograph dogs for The Photo Book Projects (http://www.thephotobooks.com) series. The series of books and other merchandise are designed to raise awareness about animals that are mistreated or misunderstood. A portion of the proceeds is donated to animal rescues across the country.

Her latest book in the series, Pit Bulls & Pit Bull Type Dogs, contains 82 portraits and stories of pit bulls and pit bull type dogs that will forever change your attitude about this “breed.” This book is about all pit bull type dogs (not just American Pit Bull Terriers) that are discriminated against because they have a certain look, and are therefore labeled as “pit bulls.” In this touching tribute to the breed, you’ll meet:

  • 10 former Michael Vick pit bulls (including cover dog Jonny Justice, Uba, Hector, Handsome Dan and Cherry),
  • Oogy (from the New York Times best-selling book by the same name),
  • Wallace the Pit Bull (the king of canine disc)
  • Sarge the Elderbull
  • Phillies Second Baseman Chase Utley & his wife Jennifer’s rescued pit bull Jack
  • Pinups for Pitbulls founder Deirdre “Little Darling” Franklin’s dogs Carla Lou & Baxter Bean
  • and many other gorgeous dogs whose stories and character-packed photos expose pit bulls as “the dogs next door.”

The book is available for sale at http://photobooks.myshopify.com  and on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Bulls-Bull-Type-Photo-Projects/dp/0984590323/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330528715&sr=8-1, and a percentage of all proceeds are donated to animal rescues.
