dogA Rockford, Illinois homeowner has a family pet to thank for stopping a home invasion in progress. Police say the dog defended his property when an armed man kicked down the door of a home in the 3000 block of North Church Street.

According to WREX:

Officers responded to the home around 10:45 p.m. The resident of the home told them that a silver four-door sedan with stock rims pulled up in front of their house, a man got out of the car, and approached the door. The man then kicked and pulled at the door until it gave way and entered the house. He appeared to be armed.

At that moment, the family’s dog burst into the room:  police said the suspect got one look at the angry dog, turned tail and ran back to his car. He was last seen leaving the area heading south to Midway and then westbound. Nothing was stolen and no injuries were reported.

The suspect was armed with a small silver handgun, and is described as a black male in his late twenties, 6′ 1″, 150 pounds, last seen wearing a black and gray hoodie, blue jeans and a facemask.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect or the incident is asked to contact the Rockford Police at 815-987-5824.
