From zero to hero, the people of Randleman, North Carolina are praising Abby, a 4-year-old brown and white pit bull mix. Abby had been a rescue dog, before being adopted into the William’s family. She had been adopted from the Randolph County Animal Shelter.

Abby has been credited with helping find the gunman who is suspected of shooting two Randolph County police officers. The suspect, Jamey Lee Ashley, sent investigators on a 4-hour long manhunt. The hunt came to a close after neighbors stated Abby would not stop barking at an abandoned barn. Knowing a suspect was on the loose, neighbors called 911.

“She’s very friendly, very sweet, very laid back,” said Abby’s owner Michelle Williams.  “I’m so proud of her.”

The Randolph County sheriff’s office say it was Abby’s persistent barking that lead them straight to Ashley.
