Charlie shih largeCharlie is a 2 year old Shih Tzu who came to the Animal Haven shelter , in Lower Manhattan, NYC, a few months ago. Some unknown trauma affecting Charlie’s hind legs and back end made it difficult for him to walk and to urinate on his own.

The shelter gave Charlie diligent, loving care and fitted him in a wheeled cart. The cart gave Charlie mobility and allowed him to get more enjoyment out of life. It also had a therapeutic effect, allowing him to make great progress in a short time. Charlie now gets around much better on his own, and his progress can be seen in the endearing little video below, which served as his adoption video. Charlie’s adoption is currently pending.

“Hi! My name is Charlie and I was surrendered to Animal Haven a few months ago. It appeared as if I had been through some type of physical trauma which left me almost unable to use my back legs or urinate on my own. The staff has been working tirelessly to help me re-gain some mobility in my back legs and I’ve been doing extremely well! Watch my video to see for yourself how far I’ve come. It is uncertain at this point whether I will ever be able to urinate on my own, so my new adopter might need to manually express my bladder … but it’s very easy to do. I am a super sweet and WONDERFUL dog! All the volunteers and staff absolutely love me and I am a celebrity in the Caring Kids program!”
