2.1.13 Sadie2Earlier in January we brought you the story of Sadie, the adorable one-year-old puppy who was abandoned at a California Wal-Mart on a cold Christmas Eve.  She was taken in and is being fostered by store employees Jamie Perkins and Richard Leighty.

While Perkins and Leighty love taking turns fostering her, neither can keep her.  They both have other pets and don’t have adequate resources to give this girl the life she deserves.

“I just felt really sorry for her.  She was pathetic-looking and really friendly,” Leighty said.  “I didn’t know how my dogs would react.  They’re usually very aggressive toward other dogs.  But they took to her immediately.  She attempted to chase a chicken at first, but I said, ‘no,’ and she immediately stopped and followed me.”

Sadie is very friendly and loves getting attention.  2.1.13 Sadie1

“The first time I approached her, I got the wiggle butt,” Perkins said.

The 40-lb. dog is also very obedient and has a terrific temperament.  She is starting to learn basic commands, which is not difficult because she is full of love and eager to please.  She knows to relieve herself outdoors, she doesn’t bark much or beg for food, and she gets along with other animals.  She has been spayed and is up-to-date on all of her vaccinations.

Tails of Joy is sponsoring Sadie, and will transport her anywhere in California along with her food, leash, sweaters and supplies.  If you are interested in bringing this sweet girl to her new home, please contact Elayne at [email protected].
