5.15.13 6 Dogs Saved in Fire

Six dogs were rescued from a Clearwater, Florida duplex that caught fire early this morning.  No one was home at the time, but rescue crews were on the scene to save the home’s other occupants.

Inside were two adult dogs and five puppies.  Sadly, one of the puppies succumbed to smoke inhalation.  Firefighters attempted to resuscitate it but were unsuccessful.

The mother dog was unconscious and in respiratory distress, but crews were able to revive her using oxygen equipment made specifically for dogs.

The father dog was not harmed.  The surviving puppies sustained some minor burns and smoke inhalation, but none required special treatment.

As a precaution, all of the dogs were taken in for check-ups by the SPCA’s medical staff.
