When a car drove of a ferry in Rosslare Europort, Co Wexford, what the driver last expected was to have a detection dog sniff his vehicle and find the contraband drugs hidden in the car, but this is just what happened over the weekend.

Ralph, an English Spaniel customs patrol dog, detected over 10 kilos of heroin hidden inside a Mercedes Jeep. The drugs have an estimated value of €1.5 million.
After the “pet detective” identified the vehicle, Revenue officials scanned the car and uncovered the hidden contraband.
According to a report published on the Irish Mirror sniffer dogs are commonly used around cars as these drive off the ferry.
“When Ralph approached this particular jeep, he gave a positive signal, so we decided to investigate and run it through the big scanner,” a spokesman for Rosslare Europort told Irish Mirror. “It showed up an anomaly and that’s when we found the drugs. They were carefully concealed but we knew where to look.”
Thanks to Ralph, Rosslare’s customs officers uncovered their biggest heroin contraband to date. Ralph has now earned the title of hero.
