Coco

Life was hard for Coco at the beginning. She was a young mother dog, trying to provide for her four puppies, while struggling to survive herself-a nearly impossible task! She was found by Chicago Animal Control in deplorable conditions, living in a cage without food and water alongside her puppies, while standing in her own waste.

Chicago Animal Control rescued Coco and her puppies in July of 2012, as part of the Safe Humane Chicago programs involving so called “court case dogs”-dogs that “have done the time but not the crime” and are victims of serious abuse and neglect. These dogs are rescued by police and animal control from abusers who have ongoing criminal court cases against them because of the abuse. The dogs are then assessed, socialized and trained to be family companions.

In November, 2012, after taking part in the program for “court case dogs,” Coco was brought to ALIVE Rescue, a no-kill animal sanctuary in Chicago. Coco was lucky to be rescued by such kind people and her life made a real turn for the better. All of her puppies quickly found new homes too and Coco was happy for them. However, she continued to wait.

She has been waiting for nearly a year and everyone is confident that the perfect forever family will come for sweet Coco, maybe even in time for her one year anniversary at ALIVE Rescue in November! She is currently living in a foster home and loves to run in the yard with her foster siblings and also to play with her many friends off leash in play groups. She also does well with her on-leash greetings and enjoys showing off her good manners to new people.

She already knows the commands for “sit” and “down” and looks forward to learning more. She loves cuddling and going skateboarding with her foster dad. She is excited about finding the perfect forever family that will teach her interesting new tricks. And at about 3 years old

and 45 pounds, she has many more years to learn additional tricks!
