John Durinsky from Lorain, Ohio, was walking his 13-year-old Golden retriever mix named Maya, along the Spitzer Marina on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, when the canine fell over the break wall and need to be rescued.

Maya suffers from a medical condition that makes her unbalanced, and while she was sniffing the Marina’s snowy rocks, she tumbled over and got stuck over the retaining wall.

“She sees the world at a 45-degree angle,” Durinsky told Chronicle News. “The first thing I did was call 911 because I knew I wouldn’t be able to get her back up.”

Within minutes Loraine police and firefighters arrived at the marina to rescue the pet. Fire Captain Todd Kieswetter stated that a firefighter used ice rescue equipment to get the canine to safety.

Maya was scared while the hero rescuers tried to pull her to safety, but after a while she calmed down and allowed the team to rescue her.

Luckily for the elder pet, she suffered no injures from the fall.
