Mavis and Martin are mixed homeless dogs that for three years lived fending for themselves in a Philadelphia salvage yard. The canine couple had different sets of litters, and every time they had puppies junkyard workers sold their babies for profit.

It is hard to believe that even though there were people profiting from the love Mavis and Martin have for one another, they never bother to look after the adult dogs.

The homeless dogs unfortunate life style came to an end when Alana Litwak, a local animal lover, decided the dogs deserved a better life. Litwak made it her goal to get the dogs rescued and help them find a forever loving home.

For quite some time this local animal lover tried to humanly capture the canine lovers, but the task proofed difficult.

Martin is very smart. He was able to enter the traps without triggering them and retrieve the tasty food Litwak placed in them to lure them into the traps.

Realizing this rescue was too difficult, the concerned animal lover enlisted professional help. Litwak contacted experienced dog catcher Steve Hagey, and he was able to rescue the pets.

Hagey approached the rescue in a different manner. He constructed a larger kennel where both dogs could walk in and be trapped together.

On a snowy day, Martin and Mavis entered the trap and soon as they were secure, they were taken to a veterinarian for examination.

For now the sweetheart dogs are kept kenneled together. This helps keep their stress level down, but what they dogs need is someone to show them love and a better life. Martin and Mavis need a long term foster or forever home.

PAWS New England has welcomed them into their rescue program and the organization hopes animal lovers come forward to offer the dogs the life they deserve.
