John Logie and K9 partner Balto served side by side in Afghanistan for almost a year until Logie was injured by an improvised explosive device. On Saturday Logie was reunited with his hero Balto this time to take him home for good.
On May 9, 2010 Logie left Afghanistan in a helicopter. His body was full of shrapnel and he was being flown to Germany for treatment. As he was loaded in his K9 partner Balto watched.
“He’s looking at me like, ‘Where are you going, Dad?’” said Logie.
The partners had spent almost a year together searching for explosives and clearing the way for troops before one of those explosives injured Logie. The two have seen each other a few times since that day when Logie was injured, but now almost four years later Balto and Logie are reunited for good. Logie met Balto at Salt Lake International Airport to take him home.
“This is my hero right here,” said Logie. “He saved my life multiple times and now it’s time for him to go home and sit on the couch.”
