In 2011, Canadian photographer Naomi Harris rescued a dirty, tick-infested Shih Tzu from an Indian reservation. She was going to take her to a humane society, but on the ride, fell in love. Now she and the dog, named Maggie, have gone on a road trip across the states, snapping lots of fun photos along the way.
“On the res, she was covered in mud and ticks,” Naomi said. “I was going to drop her off at the Humane Society, and, on my way there, I put her in this bucket in the front seat and she stared at me while we drove for hours.”
Last year she applied for American citizenship, and went on a road trip across the country with Maggie in tow as a hands-on preparation for her exam. Together they have 29,000 miles under their belt. Naomi documents their adventures by journaling photos on Instagram. She hopes to compile the lot of them into a book called Dog Bless America.
