5.24.14 - UPDATE

Charm, a two-year-old Chihuahua pup, was found stuck on the divider of a very busy California highway.  After much effort by the police, they managed to lure him off the divider and to safety.  Now, after that whole scary ordeal, Charm is finally back home with her family.

A man and his two young daughters were surfing the internet when pictures of the pooch went viral.  They quickly realized that the dog in the photos was their missing furry family.

Charm, a two-year-old puppy is apparently quite the Houdini.  On the 9th of May, 2014, she got out of the backyard, and bolted onto Highway 680.  The highway is situated near Walnut Creek, which is East of Oakland.  She somehow managed to navigate between the speeding cars, but ended up stuck on the divider.

In the picture, you can see just how scared she was.  After several reports to police by motorist having seen the scared little pup in the predicament she managed to get herself into, the California Highway Patrol came to her rescue.

She eventually let Andrew Tara of the Contra Costa Animal Shelter pick her up, and then get her back to the shelter.  After a complete medical evaluation, finding Charm to be in good medical health, even if she was a bit freaked out by the whole situation.

Animal workers at the Contra Costa Shelter were inundated with phone calls from people wanting to adopt Charm, whom the shelter volunteers nicknamed “Freeway”. This past Friday however, Charm’s family came to get her.

The girls, who were using Facebook to search for Charm, made a large poster-sized thank you card, and were so happy to have Charm back.

“The reunion was very sweet and everyone was very excited — especially Charm,” a message on the animals services Facebook page, adding “We are ALL very happy for the family, who have learned a valuable and expensive lesson in pet licensing, micro chipping, spaying, good fencing and the power of social media!”
