Sharpei Mix Stray Going Blind Wants to See Again

Stevenson, a Sharpei mix was picked up as a stray in the city of Chicago. When found, he was dirty, hungry and underweight, but what surprised Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) was that he could hardly keep his eyes open to see, yet somehow he was surviving on the city streets.

The friendly stray suffers from Bilateral Entropion, which means his eyelashes folded inward. This condition not only makes him very uncomfortable, but it keeps him from opening his eyes and seeing the world.

Because the dog’s eyelashes are constantly rubbing against his eyes, Stevenson’s corneas are irritated. If he doesn’t get surgery to fix them soon, he could have permanent damage and even go blind.

Entropion is usually cause by genetic factors and if not corrected in time, it can lead to scarring of the eyelid or nerve damage.

The CACC Transfer Team wants to get Stevenson the help he needs and they have created a YouCaring page to raise funds for his surgery.

“We hope that if a rescue can take him, the CACC surgeon will do the surgery,” posted the CACC Transfer Team on YouCaring.com. “[Stevenson] is a great dog…and he is in so much pain…we have to help him!”

If CACC does the surgery, and a committed rescue comes forward to pull this sweet dog from Animal Control, all donations will go with Stevenson and the rescue who saves him. He will need follow-up appointments and other medical procedures, and the raised funds will cover those costs.

To help Stevenson see the world again, please consider making a donation.
