About a year ago, Storm, a husky from Fontana, Calif., accidentally ran away from home when the garage door was left open. Her owners, the Skeltons, searched for their beloved pet but after months of coming back empty handed they gave up. Well, last week, 13 months after the dog got lost, the Skeltons received an unexpected phone call informing them Storm had been found.

“We just gave away her crate,” Linda Skelton told The Press Enterprise. “It’s Murphy’’Law – you start giving things away, and things happen.”

A good Samaritan found Storm running loose around the city’s Shadow Park. The animal lover was able to capture the pet and turned her in to animal services. At the shelter, the dog was scanned for a microchip and since the Skeltons had registered their pet and the chip, Animal Control Officer Jennie Fisher was able to contact the family with the good news.

The family drove to animal control to pick up their long lost, four-legged family member, and when reunited they discovered Storm was overweight and infested with ticks.

“Her energy level was very low,” said Linda Skelton, “[but] then we took her to the vet, and now she is back to herself. We are really happy we got her back.”

This reunion was made possible because Storm had an up-to-date microchip.

Never underestimate the power of microchipping your pet and never give up on searching for your dog. It might take longer than expected, but in the end you might get your beloved furry friend backing your arms.
