UPDATE: You can check out our initial coverage of Courtney’s story by clicking here.

We covered Courtney’s story earlier this month.  Basically, this poor creature was abandoned out back behind a Walmart.  In an effort to get free of her bindings, Courtney chewed off her own leg.  Now, hoping to help ease the cost of caring and housing Courtney during her recovery, Walmart is holding a fundraiser for her.

Walmart says that it will match donations made to Courtney’s fundraiser.

“She’s doing super good,” said Melanie Wittner.  Wittner is the director of the Hopeful Heart Rescue in Roseville.

On January 18th, after a passerby noticed the dog chained up to a post, police were called out to the scene.  The metal cable she had been tethered to have wrapped it’s self around her leg so tightly, it had become embedded down to the bone, and Courtney simply finished off the job by chewing the rest of the leg off.

Courtney was then taken to Advanced Animal Emergency.  To prevent any infection, doctors cleaned up what was left of the leg, and now Courtney is on the road to recovery.  Courtney’s after care will be taking place at a local non-profit organization called 4 Paws 1 Heart.  You can visit their Facebook page by clicking here as well.  Courtney’s fundraiser will be held this coming Saturday at the Walmart at 28804 Gratiot, at 12 Mile Road, Roseville.

  1. Why a fundraiser..Wal-Mart gets enough of our $ . It wouldn’t effect their bottom line to donate the funds. Then they could even deduct from taxes

  2. Hey Fred – How about proofreading your post before putting it up? Check out your fourth paragraph!

  3. I agree with Sylvia K Hatcher. Really? They are a huge corporation. They would get more kuddos and better press if the just donated the funds. Would be a “drop in the bucket” for them and a tax write off.

  4. Brave dog. I don’t think that it was Walmart’s fault that the dog was tied up. At least they are trying to help.

  5. Walmart doesn’t need to do anything, really. It is not their dog and Walmart didn’t tie it up to die out there. Nice of them to offer to help anyway. Save the anger for the jerk who left their dog to die. I hope the fundraiser is a huge success.

  6. Glad Walmart is doing this. How in the world did the dog get so hurt before anyone noticed? And wish a Walmart camera would have caught the POS who dumped the poor dog.

    1. If Tourette first article written above the story, you would see that the dog was in that shape when the two men dropped her off. They were caught on camera. Police are involved with an investigation.

  7. How does no one , no Walmart workers see the dog to have helped her sooner? The back is where the loading and unloading goes on right?

  8. @ Jennifer, Thats your idea of trying to help ? Walmart can afford to save every animal in the US on their profits from ONE DAY.

  9. how stupid does Walmart think we are ? dig into your bottomless pockets and DONATE the money….against taxes of course !

  10. Is Walmart perhaps trying to deflect a little attention and do a bit of damage control as far as animal welfare because they refuse to stop using gestation crates for pigs? Walmart sucks. Hope this sweet girl is taken care of at least.

  11. They posted this story a few weeks back from michigan. Two guys pull up and tied this dog behind Walmart. The cable was already on the dogs leg. They want to catch these two men. They posted the video hoping some one would turn these guys in. They are two POS that need to be found. They may have other pets in their back yard that need help.

  13. Perhaps the employees of that Walmart are having the fundraiser. Regardless, this sweet dog deserves help.
I’d love to see more posts about how to help this dog, and other animals who’ve been abused/abandoned.

  14. Sure Wal-Mart could pay for it but that wouldn’t give them the good press they so desperately need. Praying for Courtney to have a good home. That’s what matters most!!

  15. Nobody at Walmart happened to notice this dog when she was tied and chewing her foot off? She never cried or yelped or barked? No cameras ever saw her? Yet now they want to hold a fundraiser. Walmart should just donate to her vet bills if they want to act like good samaritans.

  16. How sad for the dog to endure that. How sad fir humanity that we do not value animal life. I hope this angel finds a forever home.

  17. Walmart is holding a fundraiser? With the amount they save on wages they can afford to fund the costs themselves without assistance.

  18. Really? With all the money they save by paying their workers low wages without benefits you’d think Walmart could just pay the damn vet bill for this dog. It’s just another layer of insult that the poor animal has to endure. Shame on Walmart!

  19. How long was this dog out there that she had enough time to chew off her foot? And no one at Walmart noticed the dog chained up out back? I don’t buy it.

  20. I’d like to smack every Walmart employee that noticed her but just kept on walking. Scum. You are what’s wrong with the earth.

  21. Its not wallmart who should be blamed. It’s the heartless bastards who didn’t care or would rather video the poor dog eating it’s on foot off

  22. its sad that this happen. its even more sad that walmart is trying to cash in on the tragedy. but its also lucky for the dog to be given another chance vs just being put down inside a shelter. every living creature deserves to be loved. wish we could start developing laws that would bring harsh consequences for criminal action towards any living creature.

  23. Anyone have info on how to donate? I’m sure people on here would be willing to donate to make sure this poor lil fella lives a happy life!

    1. 4 paws 1 heart is responsible for her aftercare if you read the article it has a link or just look for their FB page and take it fro

  24. Poor pup…thank you to the folks who rescued her!!! Just curious…is it the folks from the Walmart store where she was found that are having the fundraiser or “Walmart” the corporation???

  26. I’m glad they’re doing something for the dog, but at the same time Walmart could out right pay for the animal’s care and not even feel the dent

  28. Very different from the Walmart in my city, where the manager is poisioning the stray cats that are abandoned on their garden! And forbiding people to feed and help them!
