Cru’s Quest for a Canine Cancer Cure

3.19.15 - Cru's Quest for a Canine Cancer Cure1

The following plea comes from dog lover & pit bull owner Chris Brunette:

Hey Everyone,

This page is for Cru, a 5-year-old American pit bull terrier, a loyal companion, and one of my absolute best friends. He has had a profound effect on my life, and that of others. I promise you, he is one of a kind.

I have known Cru since he was a mere 8 weeks old and watched him grow into an amazing dog who is now 5. He defies what society believes about “pit bulls” and is a true ambassador for the breed. He has changed the perceptions of hundreds, if not thousands of people in South Florida about this breed. He has no enemies in this world, only friends… but we need your help.

Recently, Cru was diagnosed with an aggressive type of cancer – and we’re about to be at war with this terrible disease. As I sit here writing this I am tearing up, thinking about what may happen to my boy. But I know one thing is for certain – WE ARE GOING TO FIGHT. It is going to be an arduous battle – but with your help can give Cru a fighting chance.

After everything he has done for the breed, my friends, my family, and myself – this is the least I can do for him. We ask for your help in this war – in hopes that we can not only cure Cru, but canine cancer as a whole. This is bigger than any one dog.

You know, they say Superman wears Chuck Norris pajamas at night when he goes to bed. Did you know that when Chuck Norris goes to bed, he wears Cru pajamas? Cru Tough!

Thank you all for your help,

Cru, Chris, and everyone of Cru’s family and friends (dogs and humans alike)

P.S. Anything raised that does not go towards Cru’s treatment will go towards another dog fighting cancer or to a shelter in need of assistance.

  3. Check out KetoPet Sanctuary in Texas. They are on the cutting edge of cancer treatments. Be strong Cru!!!

  4. We lost our beloved Lab to cancer in January and I completely understand how heartbroken you must be feeling. No dog or dog owner should have to go through it. It’s an awful disease. Our vet said we couldn’t fight without causing him more pain, so we chose to put him to sleep. It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made. I hope for Crus sake and yours that he is able to fight and stay alive. 5 is awfully young and I’m sure he has the strength he needs to fight this awful disease with all his might. Good luck to you and Cru- he is lucky to have you as his owner.

  5. You have my prayers. Having lost two of my loving babies to cancer, both a dog and a cat, I understand what you are going through. Take care. You are in my prayers. I know, that like myself and my babies, you have loved a lifetime that will last forever no matter what the future holds.

  6. My heart goes out to you. It’s so hard watching our babies go through this kind of thing. He looks like a sweetheart!

  7. I am so sorry about his cancer diagnosis . My dog also was diagnosed with cancer. It is so hard to see them sick or in pain! Good luck and prayers for your sweetheart 🙂

  8. So Sorry……Prayers for this beautiful fur baby and for ya’ll as well. God has the powers to heal.

  9. try medical cannibus/ oil get ahold od cures cancers in all forms
of life. many vets are using it now

  10. Does anyone else think that there are a higher percentage of dogs dying of cancer now than 20 years ago??

  11. Thank everyone for the support. Right now vets are saying it’s a round cell tumor and leading toward a mast cell tumor. We’re awaiting proper diagnosis from a pathologist, but thus far results haven’t pinpointed the exact type. But it has gone from a quarter size to the size of my fist in 6 weeks. Here is a picture of it taken last weekend. You can see the tumor growing on his back.

  12. Like I said Chris, Nicole Bianchi and I appreciate all the support. We hope that if nothing else, this will help raise awareness for cancer in animals. It’s such a terrible disease and we hate to see cru go through it! It’s heartbreaking

  13. I’m so sorry to hear of this devastating news. It’s a terrible disease that takes the lives of so many animals and humans. My heart goes out to you and Cru. You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers!! Fight Fight Fight this Cru….you can beat this!!

  14. Definitely seek out holistic care. My Boxer has mast cell cancer..we have had very good luck with numerous supplements and one round of surgery. Prayers for Cru and his family.

  15. This support is amazing thank you all. Update: we met with the oncologist yesterday for more tests and the good news is that it hasn’t spread. But we still don’t have an exact diagnosis. Unfortunately until we have an exact diagnosis, we cannot begin treatment but we are hoping to get that exact diagnosis today or Monday. Nicole Bianchi

  16. I am praying for Cru! I, too, had a dog with cancer … lymphoma. He fought the good fight but, sadly, passed away. We spent thousands of dollars on cancer treatment only to have him pass after six weeks and unfortunately, it was six weeks of horror for him. He went daily for chemo treatments and was so afraid each time we walked through the vet’s door. He lost a lot of weight and got heart failure from the chemo. Every time I think back, I wish I hadn’t put him through that treatment as it wasn’t curable but just gave him more time. I loved him so much that I just couldn’t let him go and unfortunately he suffered for it. So please, if Cru’s cancer is not curable, don’t do what I did; just enjoy the time you have left with him. He’s so beautiful and my heart breaks for you.

  17. My black lab developed lung cancer when she was 11 I know right where you are, just keep on heaping on love and playing with him. Saying a prayer right now!

  18. I can’t believe the number of dogs with cancer just on these posts. My brother’s dog was put to sleep after developing lung cancer (YES LUNG CANCER). They found a cancerous tumor in her lungs. She was only 7 years old beautiful Rotty. My brother cried like a baby holding his baby while she was put to sleep. It’s heartbreaking. I will pray for all of you as my 2 dogs are my babies and I would fall apart if this happened to either one of them. God bless them all.

  19. dogs often can handle anti-cancer meds better than people – I pray he is one that does and that he beats this horrible disease!

  20. I wish u and Cru the very best. I know how much love there is between ourselves and our furry kidz. They are the best part of my life!
