“I just wanted people to know that there are still people out there who do good things, really,” Risa Feldman said.

Ike is 15-and-a-half years old, but he will always be Risa Feldman’s baby boy.  Sadly, he was diagnosed with cancer and likely only has a few months left, but he will get to spend them traveling comfortably thanks to a couple of generous Home Depot employees.

The elderly mutt was rescued by Feldman 12 years ago, and has been adored by her ever since.  His bone cancer diagnosis is just making their last days together even more precious, and she is spoiling him as much as possible.

Ike has always enjoyed long walks along Manhattan Beach, California, where Feldman will order a cup of coffee for herself and a side of bacon for her boy.

“He’s so happy to watch everybody,” Feldman told ABC News. “It’s his favorite thing to do. He’ll lay there in the sun.”

But the cancer is in one of his hind legs, making it very painful for him to move about.  Feldman uses a harness to help him walk, and he has a wheelchair to carry his back legs.  But he gets tired easily, so she went to Home Depot to see about having a cart modified for him.

Employee Ernesto Moran said he’d think about it and give her a call.  He and Coworker Justin Wadman designed a special wagon for Ike that would have a ramp to help him climb up on his own.  And the best part?  They did it for free.

“I offered to build this for her and let her know that it’s something that Home Depot offers – giving back to our customers,” Moran explained.

Feldman was overjoyed, and shared the kindness with local ABC station KABC.

“I just wanted people to know that there are still people out there who do good things, really.”

She knows this will bring so much comfort to Ike.

“It’s almost like a smile.  His face – it lights up.”

  1. I see so many stories online of families abandoning elderly pups. This does my heart good, she is giving her babies the best life that she can and the HD employees who help??? Heroes, each and everyone of them.

  2. Awesome Home Depot! Looks like this old sweet boy has lived a good life. It’s all any of us can hope for! Way to go Ike!♡

  3. My dog Crunch got bone cancer last year and we had to have his rear leg amputated on July 2nd, 2014, 5 days before my birthday. He made it to his birthday on December 26th and is still going strong now in march. Sorry to hear about your furry friend. I hope he has an amazing next few months left with his family.

  4. Wish I could do this for my elderly dobie. I don’t know if she would like it though. She is freaked by being penned in.

  5. That is so thoughtful. It warms my heart when I see how generous people are to animals. Praying that this sweetie’s time is spent spoiled rotten!
