On March 31, 2015, a 2- to 3-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier was dumped at Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, Calif. The female dog was underweight, suffered from mange, parasites and an eye ulcer.

Veterinarians and shelter volunteers named the dog Hope and posted her story on their Facebook page. When fans learned how Hoped was abandoned, the community wanted to help. At their request, the shelter started an online fundraising page and within a day they surpassed their $2,000 goal. In total, $6,803 were raised, all funds will be used to help Hope and other dogs in similar conditions.

The dog is a gentle, loving dog and after being cleared by vets, she was placed in a foster home to start treating her skin ailments. Days after moving into foster care, Hope was rushed back to the animal clinic because her eye ulcer ruptured. Unfortunately, she lost her right eye, but she has complete vision on the other eye.

Front Street Animal Shelter plans to find Hope a forever home when she regains her health. Many have expressed their interest in making her a family member, but they’ll have to wait a few months until she is ready to go home.
