On Friday, June 5, 2014, a 55-pound Husky mixed dog was rescued along the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 224, in Newton, IA. The dog was confined to a cage too small for its large size and was wearing a heavy chain on its neck. Thanks to animal control officers, the pet is now safe and hopes to be adopted soon.
No one knows who this dog belongs to or who abandoned him on the highway, all that is know is that the pet was hungry, thirsty and locked in a cage secured by zip ties.
Rescuers named the dog Sprite and transported him to Jasper County Animal Rescue League in Newton. A veterinarian examined the dog and found him in good health.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation and hopes to find whoever abandoned the pet. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Sheriff John Halferty’s office at 641-792-5912.
