Back in August we told you about a dog in France who had been ruthlessly buried alive by her owner and left to die.  Athena was found by a man and his dog, and now we’re pleased to tell you that she has been adopted and will be getting pampered for the rest of her life.

Pedro Dinis was walking his dog in Carrieres-sur-Seine, which is west of Paris.  His dog began behaving peculiarly, and he noticed a Dogue de Bordeaux buried up to her head.

“Only her head was visible and it was difficult to see given the amount of earth covering her,” he posted on Facebook.

She was surrounded by rocks, which are believed to have been thrown at her after being buried.  She was also attached to a large sack filled with gravel (to keep her from escaping).  Dinis called emergency services, who rushed the badly “shocked and dehydrated” dog to Clinique Vétérinaire V24.

Her former owner will face a two-year prison sentence and a $33,000+ fine when he goes to court next year.

Athena is now living the good life.  She was taken in by Raymonde and Jean-Pierre Delfosse, a couple who runs the rescue group SOS Dogue de Bordeaux.  She can spend the rest of her life there, playing with the other pets and going for walks on the lush grounds.

“She is a lovely dog,” they told The Dodo.  “She has recovered well and is confident around people. It’s love.”

Athena even recently had the opportunity to meet up again with her hero.  Best of luck to you, lovely girl!

He looks like her he has a bit of white on his face. He is the sweetest kindest dog.

  2. Maybe someone can explain to me how someone could be so cruel and evil as to bury a dog alive? Thank u God for the guardain angel who saved him and the angel who adopted him!

  3. two years for what he did? That isn’t enough… should be include no pets for him at all and more years at jail.. that’s CRUEL.. dog is “BEING” like us should be same… glad She is doing great and with wonderful family. enjoy life

  4. I concur with what Martie Behrens wrote. As they say,”Karma is a bitch!” We need to pray that more KIND HEARTED people step forward, because these animal horror stories just keep coming and coming. What is WRONG with people?!?!? 🙁

  5. Too bad that this dog needs to suffer first before having the kind of life that every dog deserves. Thanks to all the people who helped and rescued this poor dog.

  6. The punishment should fit the crime! Bury that MF’er up to his neck beside a fire ant hill, dump a bottle of honey on his head, bid him adieu and let nature take care of the rest. No mercy for animal abusers.

  7. Just put the owners in electric chair or burial them same things never see them again, now she’s save God bless her ?❤️

  8. She can’t be officially adopted until the trial but I think her next family is a foster family (is that the right word ?). 🙂 I’m so glad she’s ok and happy

  9. Quim Gomes…lembras-te??? Salvou-se e foi adoptado..?
Antigo dono 2 anos preso e $33.000 multa…devia era ser tb enterrado.

  10. Hope the former owner is given the stiffest sentence possible. How anyone could do that to this sweet girl is beyond me. A big thank you to all who participated in her rescue and to her new “forever” owner.

  11. What a sick person, to do this to a living creature of any kind at all. So wonderful that this dog was rescued and that the owner will face proper punishment.

  12. It makes so sad and furious that a person can be capable of something so despicable! 🙁
I hope karma gets that SOB back real good!

  13. There are really some evil people out there…smh I’m soo happy he was rescued in time. I plead with those who have pets if you can’t take care of them give them to someone who can and stop animal cruelty.

  14. When the Bastard finally goes to prison, he’s gonna have a minimum two years of painfilled hell, the other cons will see to that…

  15. It is incredible how some people may be so cruel! It makes me sad and angry – I wish those who did something like that to be punished the same way! Lucky Athena and god blessed the people who saved her life, and who adopted her!
