Italian Sailors Save Puppy Stranded in the Gulf of Naples

He was quickly reunited with owner Mario di Meglio, whose ferry had traveled 20 miles from where the pup was found.

A Labrador puppy is lucky to be alive after falling from a ferry into the Golfo di Napoli, where he swam for hours to stay alive.  Thankfully six sailors arrived in time to pluck him from the chilly water.

The boaters, members of the Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia were stunned to see a three-month-old puppy swimming for his life far out from the coast.  They called out, hoping he would swim to them.

He might have been scared, but certainly knew a rescue when he saw one!  It took a couple of passes for the dog and boat to come near enough together without the current pushing the boat away, but once they got close enough, one of the sailors reached down and pulled the pup out.

A female passenger immediately cradled the dog and wiped some of the water from his fur.  Someone else draped a coat over him until they got to land.  The boaters continued to care for him by gently blow-drying him until he was warm and dry.

He was quickly reunited with owner Mario di Meglio, whose ferry had traveled 20 miles from where the pup was found.  Apparently the little guy, called “The Master of Noodles,” slipped his collar, and jumped overboard.

The heartless ferry driver refused to stop or turn around once he plummeted into the water.  Crew members told the distraught owner that it was futile; his dog was already dead.  But at least Noodles was saved, and is now doing well.

  1. If the owner jumped overboard to get his little pooch that they apparently didnt care about, they would have had to stopped. For a fine of course, but still. Poor pup, a LAB, may never want to swim again.

  2. I wouldn’t have hesitated for one second to jump in to save my pup. Sure glad he’s back with his owner, and thanks to the folks that pulled him from the water.

  3. Poor puppy! How can his owner left him to his lucky??? The story says the puppy felt from a ferry … so???? His owner was not able to do something???? He was just left alone in the sea until this group of sailors rescue him! They should keep him instead of giving back to his “owner” …

    1. Very nasty Ferry Boat driver. Why not rag on Ferry Boat company instead of owner. Accidents happen but usually there are kind people in the world to help.

  4. Glad there was a happy ending….but I hope his human learns a valuable lesson….any dog out on the water MUST have a life jacket on!!!

  5. Ferry driver was a total asshat! Thanks to the WONDERFUL Italian sailors for saving this puppy! I can’t imagine what his owner or the pup was going through! Horrible.

  6. If was my dog would of jumped. Then would have to stop. That was just a dog to him. Mine is a family member. No excuse for just letting him go. Unbelievable.

  7. PEOPLE! READ THE WHOLE DAMN ARTICLE! ! 1. Pup WAS on a leash WITH A COLLAR
    2. Captain refused to stop
    3. Owner got his pup back
    4. Woman holding pup did NOT keep it.
    ANYMORE STUPID QUESTIONS??

  8. I personally would have grabbed a few life preservers and jumped overboard. One for me, one to strap on to puppy so it would not drown. Maybe that would be a bad move, but I would not have been able to do anything but. I would have also had my dog on a harness so it could not go overboard in the first place, but I try to cover all the bases to keep my pets safe.

  9. I would have jumped in to rescue him even if he weren’t mine. Should have been on a lead and wearing a life jacket. And the damn ferry should have stopped. Honestly!!!
