Two Dogs Meet at a Hospital and Become Best Friends

Olaf and Mariah were in a scary and unfamiliar place, and needed some TLC. They are being well taken care of, but even better, they’re taking care of each other.

Olaf was surrendered to an NYC shelter just before Christmas, and little Mariah was abandoned in a parking lot.  Both needed emergency treatment, but what they got was so much more!

A venomous snakebite left Olaf’s family unable to care for him, so they sadly had to surrender him to a shelter.  But he needed intensive care, and was sent to Second Chance Rescue.  They brought him to an animal hospital for surgery, and that’s where he met Mariah.

On Christmas Eve, Second Chance found six-week-old Mariah, not even ready to leave her mother, dumped in a parking lot.  She was covered in her own feces and slowly freezing to death.  Even after a couple days in the hospital, her tiny body was struggling to maintain a steady temperature.  It seemed that what she needed even more than medical care was a friend.

Like all Mastiffs, Olaf is a big guy, but he is also just a big baby.  The one-year-old boy was in a scary and unfamiliar place, and needed some TLC.  They are being well taken care of, but even better, they’re taking care of each other.

Hopefully they will soon be healthy enough for adoption – perhaps to a home together!  If you’re interested in either or both, please contact Second Chance Rescue.

  1. I would love to have both but my little Charlie wouldn’t have it. He’s too possessive of his mommy. I pray Olaf and Mariah find a great home together!

  2. together YES….the right person who will love them both will see this story and they will adopt both of them together…..friends for LIFE. <3 It will happen

  3. Our beloved family dog ‘Simba’ got run over by a car Sunday afternoon, and she needs to have surgery on her leg because a few of her tendons are torn and she has a piece of bone missing? But we simply don’t have the money to go through with the operation she needs, so my parents are thinking of euthanizing her!? She turns 2 on the 24th of January, and we’ve had her since she was a baby! New years is coming up, and I don’t want to start the new year without my baby girl! If you can PLEASE help us by sharing our gofundme page, that would be a great help! ANY donation will be a very big help! NO amount is too small! Thank you so much for your time. Have a wonderful day!

  4. It’s always so sad when folks have to surrender a family member when they can’t afford expensive medical treatment. Sometimes it feels punitive to force the surrender, especially when it’s a vet forcing it. “I’ll treat the animal, save its life, but you have to give up your family member.” I know vets aren’t in the charity business, but it sometimes feels unfair.

  5. Oh my!!! I am absolutely in love with both of them just looking at their pictures! If I had the resources to get them to Wisconsin I know in my heart they would be smothered with unconditional love the rest of their lives!!!!! I pray they are kept together due to their bond and are able to have the wonderful future they deserve!

  6. If I were not getting ready to make a long distance move, I would be there tomorrow to adopt them.
I hope someone else does and soon !!!
