For three years the scruffy, matted dog wandered the streets of Pelham, Alabama.  His owner had committed suicide and somehow Norman ended up homeless.  People would feed him, but he wouldn’t let anyone get nearer than five feet, quickly scampering away.  Finally, field office supervisor Olivia Swafford of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, after weeks of attempts, according to PetMD, was able to humanely capture him. Norman was removed to a safe place and as part of his rescue received a bit of a makeover which included the removal of four pounds of hair.

After Norman received his vaccinations, de-worming, heartworm tests (that came back negative), given both flea and heartworm preventatives, and microchipped, he was moved to Two by Two Animal Rescue in Helena, AL, so his insides could be nurtured now that the outside was looking good.  He has been moved to a foster home and ready for adoption to a home that will love him and where he can love someone back.

Sadly, Norman’s plight is not unique among many stray animals who due to circumstances over which they have no control, they wind up trying to survive on the streets. If you see an animal that appears to be in distress or need, take the opportunity to contact your local rescue organization or humane society for help.  You could be saving an animal’s life.  An animal just like Norman.

  1. Would love to come to his rescue! I am in Atlanta so not that far away. Can someone give me pertinent information on this puppy? Thanks!
