The video above went viral when posted on Dr. Mathis’ Facebook page. Over 7 million people looked at and shared this simple account of kindness. There is nothing fancy going on here. No tricks. No huge ah-ha moments. What is seen is a gentle regard for an animal who has had a very tough time and needs patience, thoughtfulness, and tenderness.

Dr. Mathis simply sits and eats his own breakfast, also out of a dog dish, sips his coffee, and intermittently pats Graycie gently, letting her know he is there, is what is so captivating.  That a couple of other animals stroll by to offer a hello is a further testament to how this veterinarian works with the animals in which he is engaged.  There is genuine care being demonstrated here on so many levels.

Fast forward to a follow-up video posted at the beginning of March.  It shares Graycie’s story and the power of the Internet in helping to change this sweet little dog’s world.  WARNING: At the start of the video is a reference to some photos from her surgery from marker 1:45-1:58.

Every day beautiful animals like Graycie are looking for someone to take them to a forever home.  Please consider adoption. What we get in return goes far beyond what many of us imagine and the real, positive, love-filled impact they can make on our lives.

  1. That is sooooo very true ? we’ve had our beloved shelter dog for over four months now & we cannot imagine our life without him❤ I think that it was him who chose us on that winter day and not that it was us who chose him❤ we love him & we can see he loves us ❤ he’s one in a million!!! Ladies & gentlemen, let mw introduce to you Ringo?

  2. I’v seen this before but not in so much detail it made me cry again – what a wonderful vet Dr Mathis is, Hope Graycie finds a forever home with lots of love and cuddles

  3. People think they are “paying for the pup’s” When they come with all their shot’s, any health issues are taken care of. Their fosters have spent time and love to them. Most all are success stories. So if you look at the whole picture, your getting a deal. Love them and you will get love back! xoxo

  4. I have a Border Collie whose previous owner was going to put down because he was no longer wanted or convenient. I have had him for a few years now, and he is just the sweetest dog. I never saw such a despondent look in an animal’s eyes as was in his the first time I saw him.

  5. This is my beautiful girl I got from SSPCA 3 yrs ago. Her start in life was a bad experience, resulting in her only having 3 legs now. But this doesn’t hold her back and she is in her forever happy home. My only wish in life would be having wnough money, big enough house and I would take alot more in. Ever animal needs a great home and the reward is true love back.
