Dogs and kids are a natural  combination and sometimes kids can be the perfect facilitators for rescue and shelter animals. Some organizations, like Lucky Dog Rescue, even have special programming for kids interesting in helping out.  Not only do programs like this teach children compassion, they learn how to care for animals properly, the importance of training, about community involvement, all positive character-building experiences.

Just like when children are scared an animal can help make them feel comfortable, likewise, for some animals, kids can have the same affect.  The video below is an example of how one dog, Nala, instantly felt safe when a young boy came and sat down near her cage.  The actions speak volumes and Nala is now happily in a forever home.  It took a child to unlock her, but just seeing a child gave her both confidence and a sense of safety.
