You may have heard and read about Derby and Rookie, the bat dogs for the Trenton Thunder, but have you hear about Daisy, the newest member of staff for the Savannah Bananas? Daisy was found, at just 6 weeks of age, abandoned in the parking lot of a baseball team. The next steps were logical. Get her to the vet, have her checked out (no collar, no tags, no microchip), then have her join the team. Team president, Jared Orton, and his wife Kelsey, adopted the puppy, christening her “Daisy.”

While it may take her some time to get to the official stage of bat retrieval, like role models Derby and Rookie, she appears to be all heart. ““We aren’t sure how big she’ll get, so it’s hard to say if she’ll be able to pick up a bat or just coach first base,” said Orton, “but as she grows, she’ll be a fixture at the ballpark,” Orton shares on the Savannah Bananas website. The Savannah Bananas are part of the Coastal Plain League in the collegiate summer baseball league. Follow the Banana Bunch and Daisy on their Facebook page.
