The plane was delayed by eight hours.  A baby wouldn’t stop crying.  The turbulence was really, really bad.  And someone barfed.  Flying isn’t the most enjoyable experience for everyone, so that’s why the SPCA Serving Erie County has volunteers bring their dogs to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport to give out big doggie hugs.

Flying isn’t only harrowing for passengers – airport employees also feel frazzled because of rude customers and other work-related issues.  When they have a break or a bit of down time and see one of the dogs come their way, they’re happy to give them some loving.

Paws for Love was created by Debbie Braun in 2006.  The some 300 volunteers bring their dogs to various locations all over Western New York – nursing homes, the airport, etc.  Some go once a month, others once or twice a week.

“When you’re here at the airport, they’re not always traveling for a good reason and the dogs seem to relax them and make them feel good,” Braun explained.

The volunteers love to do it because they know how much joy their dogs bring to their lives, and love being able to have their dogs bring smiles to others.
