Katee the black Lab went missing back in February, according to the Berkeley Patch.
Owners Gail and Jim Kraus were heartbroken, papering the area with fliers, reaching out to Lost Dogs Of Ocean County. Gail walked the area near the power lines for weeks with a friend, looking for her dog to no avail.
Five long months later, the Lost Dog Search and Rescue Group trapped Katee in the woods near Holiday City. The enterprising black Labrador retriever had kept herself alive living near a stream, following a herd of deer and eating what kind residents put out for her.
One couple had been feeding her for about two weeks near their home in Holiday City, N.J., but were unable to catch the wily dog. When a neighbor showed up with one of the Kraus’ fliers, they called immediately and spoke with Gail, who was out of state at the time.

Gail called the rescue group, which responded. Katee put up a bit of a fight in her fear; it took them two hours to catch her. The terrified (but safe at last) dog was transported to Toms River Animal Hospital.
She was covered in ticks and fighting an ear infection, but safe and on the road to recovery. The next morning, she was on her way home to Berkeley Township at last. The Krause’s had the whole rescue group over for dinner in appreciation.

“You guys are the best!!,” she wrote on Facebook. “I can honestly say I think Katee is the happiest dog around! Dinner is the least we could do,thank you just isn’t enough! Much love to ALL of you!! Always keep your love and dedication to the animals. Hope each search ends with a rescue!!”
