For our money, we’d bet that the mayor of Cormorant, MN, is the most universally loved politican in the country. Possibly the world.

Mayor Duke, a 9-year-old Great Pyrenees, was elected to a third consecutive term this past weekend. For $1 a vote, citizens bellied up to cast ballots during its annual “Cormorant Daze” festival.

“Everybody voted for Duke, except for one vote for his girlfriend, Lassie,” David Rick, Duke’s owner, told local ABC station WDAY.

No one at Life With Dogs has taken a poll, but we're pretty sure Duke's approval rating is through the roof.

As mayor, Duke appears on three highway billboards promoting the community.

Duke has been Mayor since 2014, when he won the election via write-in ballot.

“I don’t know who would run against him because he’s done such great things for the community,” Cormorant resident Karen Nelson told Detroit Lakes Online.

We’re not certain his approval ratings are the nation’s highest, but we’re pretty sure he’ll waive your parking ticket for belly rubs.
