Bringing home a new puppy is always an special time, but for a man grieving the loss of his two beloved Bichon Frises — who passed away just three weeks apart — the moment was a touching and emotionally charged spectacle.

James Xuereb of Guelph, Ontario, adored his Bichons — Lucy and Nemo — and had been sad for weeks following their passing — and so his wife, Wanda and daughter, Jaleen, decided to surprise him with a new Bichon pup for his birthday.

Jaleen took video of the moment, during which he was handed a card explaining the gift. Asked to read it out loud, the emotional Xuereb could barely manage, so his daughter took over the honor while her father was overcome.

They called the dog Lumo, a combination of Lucy and Nemo.

“No I’m not Nemo, nor could I ever be Lucy,” Jaleen said, as she read the card for her crying father. “My mommy [bought] me to bring some happiness back into your life … so as we walk through this journey of life together, may we create our own wonderful memories and rekindle the beautiful memories that you had with Nemo and Lucy.”

Once posted on Jaleen’s Facebook, the video was shared and went viral. It’s been viewed tens of millions
