Loss of a beloved pet affects us all, no less, of course, when the human in question happens to be a celebrity — but some of us have different ways of holding on to the memories.

Last May, we brought you the news of Barbra Streisand’s loss. Her longtime companion, a Coton de Tulear named Samantha, passed away at the ripe, old age of 14.

This week, news has surfaced — following the performer’s interview with Variety — that Streisand had her beloved Samantha cloned…twice!

Before Samantha passed, Streisand had cell samples taken from Sammie’s mouth and stomach. The result? Miss Scarlet and Miss Violent (so named because of the colors in which she dressed them to tell them apart).

“They have different personalities,” Streisand said in the interview. “I’m waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have her [Samantha’s] brown eyes and seriousness.”

Her third dog is a distant cousin of Samantha’s.

Streisand’s dogs are regularly featured on her Instagram feed.
