Forty-four perfectly healthy puppies bound for euthanization at a Georgia animal shelter were saved by a West Michigan rescue group yesterday.

Lake Haven Rescue volunteers are overwhelmed by what they say is the largest delivery of dogs they’ve ever taken in. Knowing that over half of the six to eight million animals that go to shelters each year are put down, LHR could not bear the thought of watching 44 lives ended prematurely, so they pulled the pups at the last minute.shutterstock 78663829

“What we do is great, but I would love for all of us to be out of a job,” Lake Haven puppy coordinator Jenn Roede said. “I would love if we didn’t have to rescue and that people would take the responsibility and take care of their pets and especially to spay and neuter them.”

Four of the puppies have already been adopted, but the remainder were dispersed to area foster homes. If you are interested in adopting or fostering please contact Lake Haven Rescue at 231.652.7507, or via e-mail at [email protected].
