Massachusetts authorities are offering  a $6000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for shooting two family dogs and leaving their bodies in a New Bedford industrial park. The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said an outpouring of community support sparked by outrage over media coverage helped the reward grow to $6,000. The dogs, a golden retriever and a Chihuahua, were found dead in mid February after having been missing for weeks.

The dogs were examined and a veterinarian said it appeared that they had been shot executioner style, in the back of the head at close range.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the MSPCA Law Enforcement Hotline at 1.800.628.5808
