Salmonella Risk Spurs Recall on Dog Treats

Predictably, Purina representatives call the lawsuit “baseless,” and snivel that the company is “the subject of social media-driven misinformation.”
The Virginia based company says that the potentially affected treats will pertain to a particular lot number, and are specific to a particular size of the pouch it’s sold in.
They are labeled best before Aug. 5, 2015, and have a lot code of 432C1KKM03.
Symptoms of poisoning include lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, (bloody) diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever.
“This is something we’ve been working toward for some time, and feel it’s the right thing to do for pets and our customers,” said a PetSmart spokeswoman.
The FDA has received nearly 5,000 formal complaints from animal lovers who say their pets have either become ill or died (from kidney failure) as a result of eating treats from China, primarily chicken jerky.
There has been a “limited number” of reports coming into Bravo with dogs experiencing nausea and diarrhea after eating the food. There have been no cases of human illness as of yet.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, lethargy and shock.
