When Jesus Ramirez from Joliet, Illi., got Cabo, a Pit bull Shepherd mix, two years ago, he never imagined that he would be turning to social media and online fundraising sites to try to save his dog’s life, but that is exactly what he is doing now.

Ramirez got Cabo when the dog was just six-weeks-old, and soon after they bonded and became best buds.

“We have gone through both good and bad times together, and he is the best companion anyone could ask for,” said Ramirez.

However, when the friendly dog started to walk on just three legs, the dog owner knew something was wrong with his best friend. After consulting a veterinarian, Ramirez learned Cabo has a ruptured cruciate ligament.

“The pain seems to be so bad he often opts to only walk with three legs and when he walks with four, you can hear a pop in his leg,” said the dog owner. “The options I was given were to have surgery and fix him right up, or wait until his pain is unmanageable and have him put to sleep.”

For the pet owner, putting his dog to sleep is not an option, especially when Cabo is so young and has a lot of life left in him. The problem is the surgery Cabo needs is very expensive and Ramirez can’t afford it.

The worried man has turned to GoFundMe hoping to raise enough money by the end of November in order to get his dog the surgery he needs to get back to normal. Ramirez is hoping to raise $4,500 and so far he has only manage to collect a little over $1,000.

“I’m asking [people] to donate any small amount of money so I can spare him this pain and in the long run, save his life,” said Ramirez. “$1, $5, $10. No amount is too small or insignificant. The donations will go towards sedation and reverse sedation, surgery, post surgery recovery medication and physical therapy.”
