On January 14, 2015, a lucky Golden Retriever walked home after being pulled from the icy Great Works River in South Berwick, Maine. The dog spent one hour trapped in the frigid waters, but he was fortunate enough to go home as if nothing happened.

The pet owner called authorities as soon as she saw her dog named Brewer fall through the ice. A fire rescue unit was dispatched to the river and firefighters Eric Bloom and Dana Curtis jumped into the cold river wearing their ice rescue suits to help the pull the canine.

“We went out and retrieved the dog,” Brian Roy of the South Berwick Fire Department told WMTW News. “The dog was able to walk off the ice on his own. Walk up the hill, and walked home.”

Brewer recovered from his frigid plunge and is enjoying his warm bed at home.
