“About the fifth time, I have her a big, long mouth-to-snout and I saw some little eyes blinking. And then she jumped up and ran off,” Christy Osborne-Evans said.
“Concerned for the immediate well-being of the dog, one of our officers took hold of one end of a rescue rope, and made his way to the dog.”
The “blank-faced” officer could hear “every one of these kids screaming and crying” as he fired the shot that ended Opie’s life.
While Officer Gomez is undoubtedly worthy of being lauded as a hero, the Meridian Police Department is also due a commendation for their proactive approach to managing dangerous dogs.
