Dyuki or Mr. Dukes was an 11-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier owned by Baltimore-based photographer Zhenia Bulawka and her boyfriend Christian. Last August, the senior dog was in his final stages of Grade III mast cell cancer and his owners wanted to do something special for their dog before the inevitable. Because Mr. Dukes loved to swim and had never been to the ocean Bulawka and Christian took the dog and his fur siblings on a dream vacation to Assateague, Md.

Mr. Dukes had a blast at the beach with his loved ones and a month later passed away.

The following images were originally published in The Dodo. Bulawka told us the photo series was “a tribute piece in honor of Dyuki.”

Mr. Dukes you were loved and will never be forgotten.
