People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has released the following undercover video footage shot at a lab in North Carolina. To say that these dogs lead a sad existence is an understatement. In addition to the unpleasantries of being subjected to chemical testing, the dogs are tattooed to remain anonymous, and their vocal chords are often cut so they don’t inconvenience lab technicians by barking too much.

This lab was closed after PETA’s investigation. To date, four workers from the lab have been indicted on felony charges for animal abuse.

The Beagle Freedom Project encourages you to take a stand against animal testing by gaining awareness of the testing procedures used in the creation of products that you purchase. To learn more, see this list of companies that still use animal testing as a regular practice in product development.
