Back in September we told you about a small dog found abandoned inside a garbage container in Jurapa Valley, Calif. The dog had been left in the garbage bin over night, but thanks to a concerned citizen, the pet was rescued and taken to the local Animal Control facility.

Read “Dog Left in Dumpster in California Is Rescued” to learn the original story.

The three-year-old Chihuahua mix was named Oscar after the “Sesame Street” character. He had no microchip and spent some time waiting for his original owner to come claim him, but after no one came forward, Riverside County Animal Services made Oscar available for adoption.

“We received more than 100 calls and e-mails from prospective adopters,” said Riverside County Animal Services spokesman John Welsh, but in the end, it was Victor Rocha from Temecula who got to adopt and take the little dog home.

“I knew that I had to save this dog and he had to be a part of my life,” Rocha told Animal Services.

Oscar will be living quite a spoiled life in a 4,000-square-foot home with three other fur-siblings, a golden retriever, a Labrador-pit bull mix, and a calico cat. He will never again be tossed out with the trash.

Congratulations Oscar!
