Groundbreaking Dog Surgery Employs Stem Cell Therapy
When it comes to improving the lives of the animals he treats, veterinarian Brian Voynick isn’t afraid to try something new. He’s been doing acupuncture on dogs for some 15 years. So when Voynick first heard about stem cell therapy for small animals like cats and dogs four years ago at a conference on holistic veterinary medicine, he was intrigued. A year later, he become the first and only veterinarian in the region to use stem cells derived from an animal’s fat to treat pain and inflammation from ailments like arthritis and hip dysplasia. Now he’s taking the therapy to the next level, processing and activating the derived stem cells on site at his clinic, the American Animal Hospital in Randolph. The procedure uses adult stem cells from the patient, not embryonic stem cells, which are far more controversial.

Stem cell therapy! Yay! Seems to have some opponents arguing ‘lack of evidence’ or evidence being anecdotal. Well, the joke is on them!
Our Jasmine had this done two years ago and we became big advocates of this therapy. Seeing is believing to us.
How great that there are vets out there who are open to new ideas! We are aware there is controversy but reckon if it helps ease the pain and suffering of animals it is worth exploring.
Happy Friday 13th!

Wow! That is amazing! I hope that it means that there will be breakthroughs in similar therapies for people.
That is so wonderful, we used to have 2 doggies that lived with us that had the hip problem, it was very sad.
It’s amazing what modern medicine can do.
Hello!! Nice to meet you! Thank you for posting about Vet-Stem. It is a procedure that will help a lot of dogs. My friends Maggie & Mitch sent me here because I am one of those stem cell dogs. I have had a bad elbow since I was one, and I am now almost 11. Back in April, I had the stem cell procedure done, and according to mum, I’m doing FANTABULOUS!
I blogged about my Stem Cell experience if you are interested. Mum was lucky enough to be able to stay with me throughout surgery, so she actually took video footages of the fat harvesting procedure and the stem cell injection procedure.
