Dogs Catch Waves in California Surfing Competition
More than fifty talented dogs of all shapes and sizes went head to head in yesterday’s exciting sixth annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition. Held in Imperial Beach, CA, the contest drew participants from across the nation.
Competitors were classified by size, and judged for surfing style, length of wave rides, and confidence.
For the second time in four years, Michael Uy and his Australian Kelpie, Abbie Girl, took first place in the small dog standings. They also managed to pull off a third place finish in the tandem competition, which sees dogs and owners paired against one another in ten minute heats.
Top finishers in each category took home a free pet holiday stay at the San Diego resort, and an upcoming feature in Modern Dog Magazine.

Makes me wish I lived on the coast. my border collie, Brody, would love that!
This event made it into the Calgary Herald!
I wish we could be enjoying something like that here today! I am so envious of those who are able to do that!
Really neat to watch. Did feel a little sad for the little white dog near the end. She fell off and the board went over her.
They sure do catch the waves here

haha I love this video! It would really take a special dog to be able surf… my dog could never stay still enough to do that haha. Thanks for sharing!
Some of the dogs didn’t look very happy… hope, it was really fun for them and not only for their owners
…
An awesome video! Thank you for sharing!
I thought that dog looked a lot like an Australian Cattle Dog (less the blue/gray color). Kelpies are awesome too.
I felt the same as Katina Mihelis. But I thought video was cute, as long as the dogs were properly taken care of.
