On Monday, October 6, 2014, Pinellas Park police officers and firefighters in Florida worked together to rescue a dog from a drainage canal. Authorities received a call saying the pooch fell and appeared injured. The report stated one of the dog’s legs could have broken when the pet fell and hit the concrete drainage canal walls hard.

Police and firefighters used a ladder and rope to lower a rescuer down the canal walls because the dog would have never been able to climb out of the canal on his own. A  harness was used to secure the dog and hoist him out.

Officials with the SPCA were also present at the rescue. As soon as the dog was pulled, the canine was handed over to them and it was transported to a veterinarian.

The SPCA did not confirm if the dog had any broken legs but they did say the pet would be evaluated by a health professional before being reunited with its owners or making him available for adoption.
